The city is built on hills, so terraces and rooftops look out over white stone houses — beautiful at sunset. The old stairways and streets of Jabal Amman and Jabal Al-Weibdeh have stone, arches and bougainvillea; hotel gardens give shade and quiet on the wedding day itself.
The Dead Sea
About an hour from Amman. White salt on the shore, still water and soft, hazy light in the last two hours of the day. Best in spring and autumn; summer afternoons are very hot.
Wadi Rum
Red sand and granite mountains in the south. The hour before sunset and the blue half hour after it are the most beautiful; a night at a camp adds a sky full of stars.
Petra
The rose-red city is a protected site with its own visiting hours and rules for professional photography, and it is busy during the day. Plan for early morning and check the current rules before you go.
Aqaba
Jordan's Red Sea coast: beaches, palm trees and hotel terraces. The sun sets over the gulf, so the hour before sunset gives warm light on the shore.
